Municipality of Skagway Waives Commercial Utility Fees

Originally posted Sept. 22, 20

From October 1st to March 31, 2021 commercial utility fees are waived to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Skagway businesses.

On March 16, 2020 the Municipality of Skagway declared an emergency based on the risk to the public posed by the global pandemic and the substantial adverse economic impacts to Skagway residents and businesses. Both rely on the tourism industry. The widespread cancellation of cruises to Alaska have had a detrimental impact on all businesses, resulting in approximately $160 million in revenue loss.

Due to this, the Municipality recognizes the need to help mitigate the impact on our local businesses by waiving commercial water, sewer, and solid waste disposal fees.
