Skagway Development Corporation Highlights

  • 2010 acted as an integral part in writing and preparing a grant request on behalf of the Municipality of Skagway (MOS) to The Department of The Interior, for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project, total project cost is $5,805,015.00.
  • 2010 planned and hosted a free Small Business Resource Expo for those in the community who are exploring starting or expanding a small business.
  • 2009 Stepped in to help the Skagway Chamber of Commerce when they faced disbandment. SDC continues to cover Chamber rental costs annually at $9,000.00.
  • 2009 & 2010 Acted as an integral part with the MOS in writing and submitting the Gateway Project Tiger Grant I & II to the U.S.D.O.T. Maritime Administration with a request of $117,000,000.00 (in 09’) & 44,600,000.00 (in 10’).
  • 2009 Skagway Trails Kiosk Grant, funding through SEAtrails for $15,000.00.
  • 2008 Upper Dewey Lake Trail Restoration Phase II grant request, funding through SEAtrails for $18,665.00.
  • 2008 Upper Dewey Lake Outhouse Replacement grant request, funding from Division of Natural Resources, Alaska State Parks Trails Grant for $24,305.00.
  • 2007 Upper Dewey Lake Trail Restoration Phase I grant request, funding from the Division of Natural Resources, Alaska State Parks, Trails Grant for $18,852.00.
  • City of Skagway Comprehensive Plan Update Mini –Grant for $30,000.00.
  • 2006 Department of Commerce Community and Economic Development Mini-Grant $30,000.00.
  • 2006 Denali Commission - Waterfront Development Grant for $500,000.00.
  • 2006 Recreational Trails Grant through The Division of Natural Resources for trail signs in the amount of $3,607.22.00.
  • Rifle Range Grant from the National Rifle Association for $3,000.00.
  • Alaska Marine Highway Cooperative Marketing Grant for $548.00.
  • Denali Commission Solid Waste Grant for $160,000.00.
  • 2004 Lower Dewey Lake Trail Switchback Reconstruction Project Grant from SEAtrails for $15,595.00.
  • 2004 Endangered Historic Structures Nomination for $25,000.00.
  • 2004 Assisted the City in the proposal writing of the Seawalk Project with an awarded earmark of $2,000,000.00.
  • 2004 Western State Wildland Urban Interface Grant was submitted for the Skagway Fire Department in the amount of $8,750.00.
  • Revolving Loan Fund Program that funded local businesses in the amount of $118,600.00.
  • Annually facilitates and manages funds for the Junior Achievement program in the Skagway Public School.
  • Manages and administers the funds for Buckwheat’s Heartbeat Trail, Marshall Islands Project, Skagway Ski Club, Rifle Range, Sustainable Skagway, Skagway Home Brewers Club, Have-A-Heart and Yuletide Committee.
  • Hosted an Evaluating Business Opportunities Workshop for the community and businesses.
  • Facilitated Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel computer training classes for the community and businesses.
  • Offers a small business assistance program with periodic small business workshops.
  • Updated and distributes the Skagway Port Marketing Brochure.
  • Maintains a Made in Skagway website for local artists.
  • Assisted Chef Christophe Ticarro in visiting the James Beard House.
  • Organized the Tri-City Meeting in August 2003.
  • Researched and assisted with Port Marketing, Port Access Study Update, Made in Skagway Program, harbor development, Vo-Tech School, rifle range, real estate development, Sea Walk Project, Yukon Mining, Wi-Fi, Skagway School, affordable housing, loan programs, financing for small businesses, etc.
  • Attended conferences and workshops with BEDC, CDBG, South East Conference, Yukon Mining Convention, International Economic Development Council (IEDC), Port Authority, Murkowski Economic Summit, Municipal Advisory Group, Opportunities North.
